Friday 17 July

Down in Cornwall, Notus, the wind god, is having a great time, liberally assisted from time to time by Hebe, goddess of rain. This made surfing interesting, but Apollo chucked out Hebe from early afternoon. After visiting a local potter, working in a massive former forge (Hephaestus' ?) near Bodmin (Chris Prindl, check him out. We bought a mug with a thumb dent rather than a handle, very cosy) it was time for the daily run.

Cornwall at evening, Apollo having relieved Hebe

Time for a secret about the 10k. Most of these races are a) somewhat hilly and b) crowded at the start. These things make it hard to run a good time. In the London Triathlon, held in the docks, the course is as flat as an armadillo's foot. And because the 10k is the last of the three events, the triathletes (or the monathletes in a relay such as mine with Laura and Mark) dribble every few seconds from the cycle to the run, with no crowd to jostle and elbow as the race begins.

This bodes well for me, but gives rise to a technical training question as Cornwall is a hilly place(any answers gratefully received, feel free to post a comment...). Is it a good idea to train on hills when you're running a flat race??

A tranquil £125 today, total to £10,778.33.
